  • The Ayushman Bharat Diwas is celebrated on 30 April, every year. This day marks the beginning of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme announced by PM Narendra Modi during his independence speech of 2018.
  • This Scheme includes Health and Wellness Centres and National Health Protection Scheme.
  • The Ayushman Bharat Diwas is the day when information regarding the Ayushman Bharat Scheme is provided to the public.
  • The central government’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana, an initiative that ensures affordable medical facilities in the remotest parts of the country has come as a respite. In wake of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, The Ayushman Bharat Diwas is celebrated.
  • This scheme subsumes Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which was the flagship programme launched by the government, offering financial protection to the poor in case of unannounced medical exigency. Hence, it is also known as the AB-PMJAY scheme among the masses.
  • Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) was launched by PM Narendra Modi in the year2018 to provide various benefits with a cover of 5 lakh rupees per family to be given per year.
  • Ayushman Bharat is a flagship scheme of Government of India which was launched as recommended by the National Health Policy in 2017,to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
  • The initiative was taken to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its underlining commitment, which is to “leave no one behind.”
  • The Ayushman Bharat Scheme aims to benefit families not only regarding health but also to provide employment opportunities. This scheme was what also gave rise to the ‘Ayushman Mitra’ post.
