  • World Malaria Day, which takes place on 25 April each year, is internationally recognized, highlighting the global efforts to control malaria and celebrating the gains that have been made.
  • In tertiary terms, strict actions are proposed and initiated to bring down suffering and reduce the mortality rates caused due to the dreadful disease.
  • The main highlight of the year 2021 is to unanimously declare the world free from malaria by bringing down malaria casualty rates to a dead zero.
  • The impressive theme for World Malaria Day 2021 is “Zero Malaria – Draw the line against malaria.” The theme is built around many facets of the global fight against malaria.
  • The objectives for this year’s World Malaria Day are:
    • Highlight the successes of countries in the malaria fight.
    • Inspire a new group of countries that have the potential to eliminate the disease by 2025.
    • Demonstrate that zero malaria is within reach for all countries.
  • The lesser-known Africa Malaria Day was celebrated in the year 2001. It was a first-of-its-kind initiative by the African governments to assess malaria-related deaths and possible reduction measures. Later in 2007, WHO held its 60th session of the World Health Assembly in which a grand declaration was made.
  • The day was officially held for the first time on 25th April 2008 by the UN’s WHO wing, and from then on, the event is officially in existence every year.
  • Global Malaria Action Plan (GMAP) aimed to control, research and continuously eliminate the disease-causing elements. With recently concluded studies, the entity has estimated the disease’s closure from its very face by the year 2050.
